Instagram Adds New Broadcast Channels Feature

Instagram Adds New Broadcast Channels Feature

Last week, Mark Zuckerberg announced Instagram’s newest feature: broadcast channels. Instagram are always exploring new ways to help creators directly reach their audience and create deeper connections with their communities. Broadcast channels are a public, one-to-many messaging tool for creators to invite all of their followers into and engage with their most interested fans.

What Are Instagram Broadcast Channels?

In short, Instagram Broadcast Channels are chats where creators can share content — like photos and videos — with their followers who’ve opted in to do so.

This new feature is a result of keeping up with the latest trends and how people communicate with each other in the now.

According to CEO, Adam Mosseri: “People actually share more photos and videos in DMs than they do in Stories in a given day. And they share more photos and videos in Stories than they do in [the] Feed.”

Who has access to Instagram Broadcast Channels?

At the moment, Broadcast Channels are being tested with a select amount of creators in the U.S.

But creators who are interested can sign up to be considered for early access HERE. Spots are limited and Instagram will be providing early access on a rolling basis (Please note: to access the waitlist, you must open the link on your mobile device).

Creating an Instagram Broadcast Channel

To create an Instagram Broadcast Channel, tap the compose button in the top right corner of your DMs tab and select “Create broadcast channel.”

From there, simply enter the Broadcast Channel name and send your first message to your followers.

Broadcast Channels will transform simple direct messages into an announcement and knowing most users love using DMs as a way to communicate, it’s the perfect way to make sure your keeping up to date with others and more importantly, your followers never miss an update from you!
